Hey all--been busy with the eldest having survived the apple shooting experiment and all, making it to adulthood to wed a beautiful young gal, which has been great, blah, blah, blah, BUT my question for y'all is that we had quite a discussion as to which DEAD song could've been selected as a "dance tune" for 20-somethings...?

I decided that a rousing Bertha would be acceptable, but it made us realize that there are not many....? What say you? Note, this means it is a tune that 85% the folks will have never heard, cannot be punctuated by stops and starts, with lots of Bob yells, etc., and...well, you get the idea.

The actual choice was FoftheD, which surprisingly, almost all the older folks knew the words too...Bride's family was from back east, so NO knowledge of the DEAD, but all the old CA based relatives (50s, 60s) did of course, and all joined in to sing with ~ 25% of the youngsters (their kids)...

Any ones I should've thought of? GRoad? Bodtline? Truckin it seems to me, but others disagreed...Latter era?

Again, has to grab a newbie and get them moving...but not in the way it would grab "us" and start moving no matter what...they need to be shown the way--certainly all "their songs" did quite well in this regard.

Lots of Phil to get the fillies feelin' frisky! Beautiful sound.

Congrats to the father of the groom and good luck to the young couple

TLEO would be good for the "first dance"

for some "booty shakin'" try Good Lovin', Shakedown Street or Feel Like A Stranger

In these difficult times it can only be 'Day Job'.

Why not a good old-fashioned "Midnight Hour"? Who could resist dancing to 8/21/68? I'm dancing in my chair right now listening! That classic 68 -SNAP- in the drumming gets me every time.

For weddings, I like TLEO for the first dance. Worked well for my wife and me (and I think you all know her opinion of the boys).

TLEO post '76?

Top choice, Iko from http://tinyurl.com/3hrjn6b

Best Iko contender. Only time Bobby sings a verse.

edit- the GLove is wedding ready to serve as well.

Stand alone Scarlet Begonias circa 1974. Stay clear of 5-19-74 or Donna will ruin the party.

I attended a Bar Mitzvah last year and the DJ played the studio version of Shakedown Street. Arguably a younger crowd then a wedding and it went over just fine. Disco was meant for dancing.

Lovelight

Gimmie Some Lovin' would be great as the song to introduce the Bride and Groom at the reception

Congrats to the father of the groom!

Wow, that's harder than you'd think. There's so much danceable stuff, and yet ... well ... Bertha? Yah right. Minglewood? Not unless he stole the bride from someone. MAMU? Mexicali? Ummmm ...

There's MSWS. That could go over well with the bride's side.

Iko Iko. Good participation opportunity. It could be after the conga line.

Sugar Magnolia?

NFA? With clinking the glasses replacing the NFA clap?

It is surprisingly difficult. Many more are NOT appropriate than are.

Loose Lucy?
Victim or the Crime?
What's Become of the Baby?

Could do Saint of Circumstance into Deal.

Ummm ... a slow dance to Sunrise?

But definitely don't pull a Jerry and play CRS on your wedding day ...

Danceable yes. But the themes aren't exactly marital.
Well, on second thought, maybe they are. But they aren't what you think marriage will be like when you first get married!

No opinion off hand, but geez, it surely can't be "Bertha" at a wedding.

Yes, topically...just couldn't come up with a fast tune. Not sure why, but the boys suggested it.
